Quiana Jackson Season 3 Episode 3

Send us a text

When life throws curveballs, how do you catch them? Let's unravel the enthralling tale of transformational coach Carlton Young, or CY, and his journey of resilience and triumph. Together, we explore how he turned his trials into a testimony, empowering men to unearth their God-given purpose. From the shadows of a near-fatal shooting to the illumination of a Kingdom mindset, CY's story is not just his own—it's a beacon for anyone searching for identity and impact, a narrative that diminishes the path to despair and champions the pursuit of a life with Christ at the helm.

Embarking on a podcast was never in my playbook, yet here I am, Keanu, once an aspiring athlete turned mouthpiece for the Almighty. 'The Genesis: A Renaissance of Manhood' emerged from a whisper to a roar, a call to revive the blueprint of authentic manhood as intended by our Creator. This season, we dissect the essence of male motivation, the strength found in unity, and how the act of sharing our spiritual walk can ignite a collective fire. It's a tale of heeding the call, the symbiosis of dream and mission, and the fellowship that binds us in faith and purpose.

But what's a vision without allies, a journey without companionship? We discuss the linchpin of partnerships, the art of strategic alignments, and the profound impact of consistently placing trust in the Lord. The path is strewn with challenges, yet it's our unyielding resolve and the support of our brethren that propel us forward. We wrap this season with a heart full of gratitude, a reminder of the transformative power we hold, together, as a community of believers. Tune in as we share insights and experiences that promise to keep you spiritually en vogue and steadfast in your faith walk.

Speaker 1:

Sashaً, dave, say hi everyone, welcome, welcome. Welcome. Welcome to Q4Christ, where this is your hour to be quick and united, educated, understanding, excited and determined for what Christ has for us, while we are waiting for his return. Okay, I am so excited today about this and if you don't know who I am, I am Keanu, your creator and your host of Q4Christ, and I want to just say thank you to everyone that has been here day one, day one where my day one is, and I'm so excited that you have been here with me. But I am so excited that this is the third season of success on purpose and I'm so excited to have my guests on here. That is, that is the open up. Is that, is that the word for it?

Speaker 2:

The open up, oh no.

Speaker 1:

He's the start of the new season and I'm so excited to have transformational coach Carlton Young, CY, as they would call him on here. How are you tonight, CY?

Speaker 2:

I'm doing amazing. I am excited to be here again. You're right. I appreciate the opportunity to come aboard and share with you on this journey of being cute for Christ, and I'm just looking forward to the conversation.

Speaker 1:

And hey, man, and notice, he said again, let me tell you he was on my panel and we talked about mislabeled, mislabeling seasons and man, that was such a powerful, powerful hour. If you haven't watched it, go back and watch it, because I guarantee it is going to bless you in that especially, whatever season that you are in is going to bless you, because you know CY gave us some good advice.

Speaker 1:

You know so, alone with everybody, else so anyway, I just want you to kind of just tell everybody who you are, tell the audience who you are, because I, when I, when I met you and I want to just tell a little bit, we are Bible you members, bible you, which is a program that Pasadena has where we strengthen our life with the Bible, and I did not know that, but I just came across your page and then finally I was like, oh, we all in by with you. So I'm excited to be able to sit with a fellow Bible you member, and on top of that, you know, your story is just impeccable. So could you just tell us a little bit about who CY is, that way everybody can know who you are.

Speaker 2:

Yes, I'd be delighted to do that. So my name is Carlton Young, I'm a country boy from Alabama and you know today is a sad day for all Alabama because Nick's saving retired.

Speaker 1:

Oh, my God One of those days.

Speaker 2:

But no, I'm from originally from Birmingham, alabama, going to my mom her name is Elizabeth Young a teenage unwed mother who eventually got married around I think when I was about four the man that I called my father passed away, went off into the military, traveled the world a little bit, been overseas, went to Montana, came back to Birmingham, finished school, went off to college, alabama A&M grow dogs left after my sophomore year, went to the military, joined the military, served six years in the military. In the military I ended up getting shot at Point Blaine Range In 1995, january 15, 1995, actually it's coming up on the anniversary. It'll be 19 years this year. Survived that, got out to military, worked, moved to Texas, dallas, texas, been here ever since and just been a man who God has marked from predestination and somebody who I call myself had a Jonas season for the majority of my adulthood ran from that calling forever.

Speaker 2:

But God is always going to win in the end. He knows how to get your attention. I'm just a man that has a kingdom mindset. I'm a father, I'm a son, I'm a husband, I'm a friend. I'm several things, several different people, but at the crux of the matter I am just a man who believes in God knows that God is real. I'm here for a reason. I'm here to share the good news, and my goal, as a man of the kingdom, is to help other men realize who they are in God, where they belong in God, help give them and equip them with the tools to become who God desired them to be, so we can possibly make an impact on the world and in cancel many reservations that held as possible.

Speaker 1:

Amen. I didn't ever heard like that reservation to hell, like that is just so deep when you think about it. You know most people don't want to think about making reservations to a bad place, but like man, wow, that was like, oh, my goodness. And when you say that you have been shocked, you know, I always you know. On the last point, if you just want to tell a little bit about that testimony, then hey, I would love for you to tell a little bit about that testimony because you know that right there just shows how you were able to light your purpose here on earth. So if you want to just tell a little bit about that, you know you can give us the water down version. That would be good.

Speaker 2:

OK, yeah, I don't have a problem with that. So basically, I was shot at Point Blank range friendly fire for the Texas Ended up in the hospital that night, right. So it was January 14th. Going into the 15th, young man getting ready to go hang out at the club down in Fort Hood, texas, kaleen, texas, hanging out doing what you know most young, vibrant men do you know? At home I shared with a couple of my military buddies, headed out, ended up getting, like I said, shot in friendly fire. Point Blank range went through two, no three, surgeries One there for the initial surgery. Second one is to remove a blood clot in the lung. They had to go back in and get it, get it again because they didn't get it all the way out. Spent about a month in the hospital, just a. You know, a life changing event that God brought me through. I really shouldn't be here. The doctor was still in awe that I made it out of that situation. He's like I don't understand how you are alive, but but God right.

Speaker 2:

And so it was just. You know, I had a praying mom or praying dad, and I vividly remember coming out of a medical induced coma from surgery and looking up and seeing my dad sitting there with his Bible, praying and speaking in tongues. I didn't know what was going on. I just woke up and saw all types of tubes. I had morphine where I could actually hit it every time.

Speaker 1:

I got a pain in the head.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I could just intravenously, you know, do it myself All kinds of tubes. I actually still have scars and marks on me from where the tubes were stuck into me. Spend them about a month in the hospital, Get out and there the story begins, right.

Speaker 1:

Hey man, so I look in a thing about it I love for it to hear stories like that, because I was in working in the emergency room and I've seen a lot of gunshot wounds and I've seen, you know, I've experienced having to do CPR on gunshot wounds where they didn't make it or you know, and stuff like that, and to hear your testimony is just like wow. You know, if I was still working in the emergency room, I would probably probably be in tears just to know that you survived. So that's amazing within itself. So well, thank you, thank you, thank you for being here. All right, you guys, I am going to say a quick prayer before we go into this interview, and because we always want to be able to bring the presence of the Holy Spirit in here, and I just want you, and then we'll go right into the message.

Speaker 1:

Ok, dear Heavenly Father, I come to you first off. I want to say thank you for this time that you have carved out for us, god, to be able to allow your son to be able to let the world know who he is. God, god, we thank you now for his life. God, thank you now for keeping him here, god, where he can be here in this moment, in this time, so someone can be able to know that they can still make it. Hallelujah.

Speaker 1:

We want to thank you now, god, for what you have done in his life. We thank you now for the representation that he is here for his podcast, the reference, the representation that he is here for his family, his children, his wife. God, we thank you now for covering him and everything that he touches. Turn to go, god. So we thank you now, god. We want you to hide us behind the cross and allow your word to go out and go forth to someone on today. God, we thank you now. We love you, god, we honor you and we cherish you. It's in Jesus' name that I pray.

Speaker 2:

All right, I'm a prayer warrior. Ok, I love it. I love it.

Speaker 1:

So, anyways, I just want to say just, I want you to just kind of give us a quick glimpse of when you were a child, and did you expect for you to be able to be doing what you are doing now, and what did you want to do when you was a child?

Speaker 2:

No, first of all. No, no, no, I was bad, I was really bad.

Speaker 1:

Oh, my goodness.

Speaker 2:

To the point where my mom was got to a point where whooping me didn't do any good. So what she would do is she would actually make me read books and write book reports. Wow, you know it's paying off now, because I know how to read and research. So you know everything got me as a master plan right.

Speaker 1:

So, but no.

Speaker 2:

I never thought that I would be where I'm at now. What I wanted to do was be a professional football player. I played football and baseball. I was pretty decent in both of them. I wanted to go to college and play football Didn't work out. So you know, I never in a million years thought I would be on a platform using the gift of communication that God has instilled in me Because one I really. I never thought that I was like this eloquent speaker, right, like I don't feel like I use all those extravagant words and I'm not a word smith, but for whatever reason, whatever God put in me, it works and I'm grateful for it. So, no, I did not expect to be here, but you know, I'm glad that God chose me, because it could have been several other ways, right?

Speaker 1:

Amen, amen. And you know, like I often say, we have to be quicken for a lot of the stuff that we are doing, and that's one reason why God gave me that acronym and the quicken. And you know, one of the meanings is to give or to restore vigor, or to stir up. Okay, and one of the scriptures that always come to mind when it comes to being quicken to do the things that we are doing is second Timothy, 1.67. Therefore, I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in your through the laying on of my hands. And verse seven say for God has not given us the spirit of fear, but the power of love and of sound mind.

Speaker 1:

So when you started your podcast, what inside of you? Just say you know what, this is what I'm gonna do, this is what I'm going to offer to men, because a lot of people don't realize that men really need that motivation. You know, coming from another man that has gone through different experience, so what really? Just kind of quicken you to just say you know what. I'm gonna start this and go with it.

Speaker 2:

Honestly, it's a quaint set of minds that I met through another friend at a conference in Atlanta called the Panoramic Experience. It's a diversity, equity and inclusion conference. Back in September I was one of the keynote speakers. So we met beforehand doing like the pre-work, getting ready to prep before the conference, and so we would talk often and we just started kind of talking. This guy's name is Lee and as he was interviewing me and kind of getting my backstory so he can get all the marketing and ready for the conference, he was like man, you should do a podcast. I'm like I don't wanna do no podcast, don't nobody wanna listen to me. But you know, in the midst of that, see, you know, obedience is better than sacrifice right.

Speaker 2:

And so God told me to start a Morning Men's Bible study that I do bi-weekly, like we just had this morning at 6.30 am for men. So I put it out there to a couple of my friends. You know, first day we had about three or four people and we've been growing and it fluctuates from anywhere from 15 to 25 men every week. I mean every other week at 6.30 in the morning. And so God began to open up to me that this my assignment was to help men like me. Right, I've a gazillion mistakes in my life, been making mistakes. You know, it's like I learned one lesson and then I fall in another pitch and have to learn another lesson.

Speaker 1:

Wow.

Speaker 2:

God began to deal with me and say men need this right. So the podcast that we started is called the Genesis. So it's basically it's called the Genesis a Renaissance of manhood. So we wanna take it back to the beginning, when God the original intent of what God designed man to be, which is to be, you know, the priest, the prophet, the king of his home. We were designed to be fruitful, to multiply, to subdue and dominate. So this is like some of the things that I tell my guys that are in my Bible study group. We have a group it's called Faith Nation. So that's what we talk about in Faith Nation is men. So it just became a driving force of validation. Like I felt like I was doing something that God wanted me to do, and as I began to be more obedient to God, he began to open up more doors for me. So I finally said, okay, let's go ahead with the podcast.

Speaker 1:

So we started working on that and here we are you know, wow, that's so amazing because you know, like you say, this is something that you probably wouldn't have thought about doing, and to be able to bring other men and to show them that, okay, look, this is what I did and you know. And now this is where I'm headed to, and I love that. What you said about the genesis, that go back to the beginning, you know, because that's where it all starts from and that's where we all know that. That's where God has put the man in head, and so in order for us to be able to do that, we need somebody like you. You know what I'm saying. I thank you for that. I'm for real, like.

Speaker 1:

I don't even know to me and that's on your face, but I know that it's impacting the world and that's the main thing right there.

Speaker 1:

So, but you know, like when you started, did you ever have to unite with someone to learn more about the joint podcasting? You know, we know that unite means to join together and you know, and I always have a scripture with these and Ephesians one and ten say, as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on the earth. So we want to unite with each other, and so was it. Did you, when you decided and when God had quickened in you and said, okay, this is what you're going to do, did you have to unite with someone to just kind of show you the ropes or show you the way, or was it just something that you researched?

Speaker 2:

No, I had to unite with me, unite with somebody. The gentleman I spoke about, he's actually my podcast producer, so he produces the podcast for us. And also I believe it was I was listening to TD Jakes or somebody, and I heard it before, but this particular time TD Jakes had said it and it just resonated with me and what he said was if your dream only requires you, then your dream is not big enough and you are not where God wants you to be. So that was like an epiphany for me, because I was trying to do every little nook and cranny myself and again the podcast was really more of him coming to me, presenting it to me, thinking that you know, I had something tangible and something worthwhile to say to men in my age bracket and young and older.

Speaker 2:

So, yeah, we joined in, uniting together, and so that's my mindset now is that, whatever I'm doing, if it only requires me, then that dream is not big enough. That's not an exceedingly abundantly more than I can actually imagine. That's what I can see right now. Right, but we gotta have that anyhow faith right, that expanded, that extensive faith that we are putting God to the test because we're doing what he's saying and now he has to respond to what we're doing, because the thing I do know about God, if you honor his principles and you do what he says, he has no choice but to honor his word.

Speaker 2:

So if you're, told you to do something. You're obedient and you're in the word. You can go to that word and say God, you said in the word X, y, z, and he's gonna hasten to do it because he said his word is not gonna return to him void.

Speaker 1:

That's right.

Speaker 2:

He's gonna accomplish what it was sent to do. So that's my mindset and anything that I'm doing now. It has to be some type of partnership, strategic alignment, something, because none of us can get what we want to on our own, and God will place people in the path that allow you to help you to accomplish the mission that he's given you in order for you to reach and impact the kingdom. And that's what, ultimately, what's about. Is you reaching and impacting the kingdom? Because we all have a spirit of people that I believe we're assigned to. So you're a metron or your group of people. They don't resonate with me, so I can't worry about what your people are doing, but I have my core group of people. There's over eight billion people in the world.

Speaker 1:

We all have a circle of influence.

Speaker 1:

Exactly exactly.

Speaker 1:

You know, and we all have, like, our purpose, our own purpose, our own calling, but we all are a part of the body of Christ and if we're not doing what we supposed to do, there's somebody that we were supposed to reach is lacking and we have to make sure that we are, like you said, connecting with people and uniting with people and doing that, because if you're not doing that, then guess what?

Speaker 1:

Your dream is not as big as you know. You're not even thinking about the people that you're trying to reach. You know, and you said, I mean, one thing that we have to do is we have to make sure that we connect with people that are on the same journey and those people that you know you don't want people that are pulling you down, you don't want people that are holding you back. You want to make sure that those people are there for that purpose or on that same type of journey. You know, and that's big for me, because I'm, you know, I'm in this season where I'm creating those boundaries. If you ain't talking about this, then you need to go that way, you know, because I can't be pulled away from my calling.

Speaker 2:

So one thing that the thing about that is, if you, as you get deeper in growing with God and your prayer life and you get in your word like he, your antennas will be heightened right, your senses, your sense of spirit is heightened. So God will put the people in proximity that you need to be and then proximate to where he wants you to go. And that's the beautiful thing, is like you got people that can help you in his current season. And then God will show you somebody that can help you get to the next level and that next step up the ladder. But then he'll also allow something to happen to move a person out of place that doesn't need to be in place. And the thing about it is we have to listen to what God is telling us. When our spirit is giving us those vibes, we have to pay attention.

Speaker 1:

Amen, that is so true. Now, is that anybody that you had to just kind of like cut off and just be like no, you invaded my space, I'm trying to get where, or did you like all the time have somebody surrounding you like that?

Speaker 2:

I've had some pretty decent people around me because I try to put good energy out there, so to speak. So sewing and reaping is really big for me, right. The law of sewing, the law of reaping whatever you sow, you don't know that what you reap is gonna be multiplied. So I always try to put good energy, good karma, out in the world, right. And so sometimes God would just like in this past season, it's like God isolated me, right. It's like he was giving me stuff, he was downloading stuff, he was working on me, so a lot of the things that my partners, my fraternity brothers, they would wanna catch up. I just didn't have the desire to do it. So just by just not being around is like attrition by absence.

Speaker 1:

Right.

Speaker 2:

And so those people? We don't have no issues, but just we're in a different space in life.

Speaker 2:

And so you know where I'm at and you know where I'm going, and I know where you're at and I know where you're going. Look, I love you to life. But I'm not going to veer myself off, of course, to just to hang with you, just to say I'm hanging with you, because the one thing I do know, whatever you hang around, is what you will become. Oh, that doesn't mean that they're bad people, right, but I know it's seasoned in my life. You know, like I think you posted about Pastor Darius like I can't continue to miss opportunities in season because I am not wise enough to understand that this is not the road that I need to go down. Right, I've been down at one time, two times, three times. If I go down to four, five, six, now that's crazy and that tells me that I'm not growing and elevating as a man. So for me, this season is just where I'm going, what I'm doing.

Speaker 1:

people against the colleague remove themselves by Right, right, and, and and you know, like I said, it don't mean that they bad people, it just mean that we are all different journeys, period, you know. And that's, and that's one thing that I had to learn. I really had to, you know, kind of consecrate myself, because even sometimes family members, you know, would kind of be like, oh you know, let's go do this, this, this, and I'm like I need to do this, let's go do this, this, this, and I'm like, no, I need to, I need to sit here. And one thing that you said when God isolated you, and and that's that's what lead me into my next point, which is talking about educating ourselves, because, being being in isolation, we are really downloading what God is trying to get to us. He's trying to educate us on what we need to do. He's trying to give us that next move, that next level.

Speaker 1:

And you know, I always give the scripture, ecclesiastes seven and 12, for the protection of wisdom is like the protection of money, and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it. So when God just brings us to that point where we're educating ourselves on how God wants us to move and how he, what he wants us to do in this season and getting that download. How did that look for you when, when, like you said, god had kind of isolated you, did you just like, really just yeah, because I know me, I'm a, I'm a prayer warrior, I'm getting here and I'm a be in my room and I'm just going to be like, okay, god, and listening to God, but did you have to do like any more kind of educating yourself on podcasting or just coaching or taking any classes, or what did you do in that moment?

Speaker 2:

Well, one thing God told me through my mom. We were talking one day and we, me and my mom, we talk every day about, you know, God, the Bible, the word. We're just talking about stuff, right, and I was just telling her some of the things that were dropping to my spirit and she said, son, go get you a notebook, carry with you everywhere you go, have a pen, write it down. So I'm like, okay, here you got right. So I got the notebook. This is just one of them. It goes with me. It goes with me everywhere I go. Awesome, and so if I'm somewhere and God dropped something in my spirit, I write it down.

Speaker 2:

And then what I typically do is my first hour of the day that I get up is my time to, to, to talk to God as prayer, read my word, do my study, and and then you know, I go about my day before I look at my phone before I do anything. So just in this season he's been doing this and I've literally filled up about two notebooks. I will probably fill up about five to six pages a day. And then in the evening, instead of watching TV, I'll come, I'll read a book. He'll give me my drop of scripture in my spirit. I'm going to get the scripture, study it, you know, run the references to make sure that I, you know, I understand what he's giving me. And so I'm just taking those downloads as he drops them in my spirit, like he is, like he's saying okay, I'm going to get you ready for this season of life because I'm giving you so much that you're going to have to, you're going to have to to put it out at some point in time because if not you will burst. So that's what I've been doing just being intentional, being consistent, right.

Speaker 2:

Consistency compounds when you show God that you can be consistent. He said, if you be faithful over a few things, I'll make you rule over many. But here's the lack of people, that scripture that we forget. At the end of that scripture he says and come and enjoy the master's pleasure, good pleasure. So if you can do the little things that God is assigning you and that you say you won't, if you can be consistent with that, god does, like we do, addition, god does exponential multiplication. So he sees you being faithful over a few things and he's about to put this formula on what you're doing, and then I'm going to blow it up. So I just been trying to be consistent, right? Because, remember, this discipline is the ability to do things when there is no motivation.

Speaker 1:

Amen.

Speaker 2:

So discipline and consistency compound right, and discipline is actually the motherhood of genius A lot of people. They're just consistent with what they're doing. So just being consistent in my routine as far as it relates to being intentional about spending time with God, Right, right, and that's one of the things that I usually say is by consistently working.

Speaker 1:

We are successful on purpose, by consistently working and the backing of God, and so we, you know, when you say that we have to be consistent, that word resonate with me all the time because, you know, ever since I started this, I, you know, went through a whole year of just healing.

Speaker 1:

I had to go through a healing process because I went through a divorce and I had to go through a healing process, and then God was depositing this and educating me on this, and this is how you do this and this is how you do that, which, further, you know, I got an understanding of everything.

Speaker 1:

And so when he gave me all of that, he gave me that understanding. You know, like I said, the proper 16 to 16, how much better to get wisdom than gold, oh my goodness. So we have to know that once you get that understanding, then now God is, god, is going to show you things that you'd be like oh my goodness, you taking me there, god, okay, and it just opened up that you know your eyes, your spiritual eyes, more so than anything, and that's one thing that I have to, you know, realize that God always, always bring it back to me after he done deposit this. You know, gave me this education, I know red, I know being in devotion, I know being in this, and he will bring it back to sometime the same day, that confirmation. I'm always getting confirmation, and so that's a beautiful thing, right?

Speaker 1:

I mean, I'd be so excited because I'm a very dramatic and ecstatic person, but sometimes I just be like, oh my God, and my kids will look at me like mama, like, like honey, you know, like I know, that's what I have to say. So, doing this time, have there been any time where you didn't fully understand what God was doing in your life? Like you know, I know we talked about the seasons and sometimes we didn't understand it. But doing this time, like did you when you got to that point, and how did you handle it when it came to that point where you, like God, I really don't understand, but what did you do in that moment? So you know, to bring you back to that understanding that God is working?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you know, you're bound to have those moments, right, because we don't understand his ways. Our thoughts are not his thoughts and our ways are not his way. So you're always going to have a moment where you don't understand what God is doing. Where he's taking you is his rhyme or his reason. But I think at this point in my life, right, I've been through so much, so many obstacles and every time I look around, god brought me out of that right. God did right. I went through that, but God did deliver. So I just that, god being a deliverer in every instance of my life.

Speaker 2:

he's always shown himself to be strong whenever I need him. It might not be exactly when I want him, but he always came through and I just you know. I think at this point in my life you just have to get to a place where you just trust God, right, and you've tried everything on your own. You've tried to make things work, because there were certain lanes and certain avenues that I wanted to go down and I felt like I had a good skill set for him. I had, you know, a good, good, good market for it, but it just never worked the way I wanted it to work. And so, finally, god was like if you do what I want you to do, then I'll do what you want me to do.

Speaker 1:

Amen.

Speaker 2:

And so I just said you know what? Hey, you know, at some point you just have to surrender and understand that you there's no way around what God has for you, right? It's like like, so it's hard to kick against the prick.

Speaker 1:

Right, right, and and and. Like you say, you know, we, we are going to go through those moments where we just be like God. You know, I'm gonna tell you one story I moved, I just moved in Atlanta, september the 15th, and I was like God, I was doing good. I had my own radio show, you know, like it wasn't big, it wasn't, you know, this huge type first, but I had everything. You know, I was good and God said no, I need you to go there.

Speaker 1:

And I'm like God, and I didn't fully understand until we were right before we did the thing. I understood what season that I was in is that?

Speaker 1:

that building and growing season and I was like, oh, this is why, okay, god, and now you know, then, once I did that, I got so excited that I was like ready to go. So when you get that understanding, when do do, how excited did you get when you get that understanding that that you fully counted. When I say fully, but you kind of got to got in your spirit what God was doing in your life. How did you accept that excitement?

Speaker 2:

I mean it's like finally, like I feel like I'm finally where I belong, doing what I've been called to do, and it just gives you a sense of fulfillment, right, and it's like I see the vision. And they said God is, every vision that you have is a vision of what God wants to give for you, or what he already has for you If you do the work that he requires of you. And so I would see the vision. And so I started to get excited because one forgot to use me in any space is, is, is, is crazy to begin with, because I'm just this head that that made a gazillion mistakes, like I said, and it might make a mistake tomorrow, because you know I'm flawed, just like everybody else. But for God, even think enough of me to say I'm going to take you and use you and make you something Now because, like I told you, I come from a not knowing my biological father, right, and I dealt with those issues of acceptance and wanting to fit in and wanting to people to like me or gravitate towards me, because that bucket wasn't filled, even though my step dad was there and he did an amazing job. That still holds in my heart, right. So just to deal with that and to get to the point to say God is saying I took you through all that for you to help somebody else, to make you stronger and to let you know that I've been with you every step of the way.

Speaker 2:

And he says you know what he says. You may not. John 13 and seven says you may not understand, but soon you will. So when that point that you understand why God did everything that he did because sometimes things are not for you there, for somebody else. Right, it takes you through that. And so when you get to the point where you understand who God wants you to be and what he wants you to do, you are being selfish if you don't open your mouth or do that thing that God has asked you to do, because somebody else's deliverance and breakthrough is hinging on you opening your mouth, or you writing that book, or you doing podcasts, or you, you know, writing that blog. Somebody needs to hear what you got to say, or you have to offer, and so you have to get it out right. Because one thing I do know the enemy cannot stop what God put in you, but he can stop me from putting it out.

Speaker 1:

Right, wow, wow, now, that is so deep right there because he can't stop you. I mean, I don't know, but I was thinking about what Kat Williams said enemy can't create nothing, you know Right, and we be sitting there and we give him so much power that he really don't have. And the thing about like, I tell people all the time the enemy, all he can do is just whisper in your ear, like he did with he.

Speaker 1:

All he can do is just all he can do is whisper in your ear and that right there. If you can get him out of your ear and deal with that inner person, the enemy, you know and not worried about the enemy then, everything you will be able to run and continue to do what God has you to do.

Speaker 1:

Like you know, the last one is determined. We have to be determined and so, being determined, we have to make sure that we get that enemy out of our ear and say, you know what, I am determined to get to my goal. I am determined to get to where God want me to get to, because, first off, he didn't even have to choose me, because like you say you was a. I'm gonna use your words. You say you was a knucklehead.

Speaker 2:

Right.

Speaker 1:

So, but you know, I had my silly season where I wanted to do what I wanted to do. You know I didn't want to listen to God. You know, ask him, okay, god, what to do? No, I wanted. I felt like, you know, I felt like I had control over everything. And you know they say if you want, if you want God to laugh, tell him your, tell him your plans. And I had plans, trust me, I had plans. So what keeps you determined to do what you are doing and to continue to keep going? Because I know certain days it probably you probably just be like, okay, I don't feel, like I just want to let it be, that's me, I'm sorry.

Speaker 2:

I'm definitely understand. What keeps me going is knowing that there's an opportunity and there's an effectual door open that God has opened for me to step through. And you have to understand that life is going to life, right, you either gonna deal with it and allow God to lead and guide you or you're gonna let life life and beat you down and then we, like we just talked about now, you're off track because the enemy the Bible, says we're not ignorant to these devices. Right, it uses the same on tricks. He doesn't have any other tricks.

Speaker 2:

So if you can keep trick, tripping me up on a lack of follow through or lack of execution, then what do I expect? What do I often say with expectation needs to be execution behind it. Wow. So I know that if God has these things for me and I believe what the word says and it's already there, right, it's predestined, it's not I'm giving it to you, it's there for the taking. You or myself have to get to the point where God says I can trust Carlton with what I'm about to give him and he won't turn his head away from me or he won't get the big head. So now I can let him have it.

Speaker 1:

Right.

Speaker 2:

It's not. If I trust God, it God can trust me. So that will keep me going. And I want to hear him say well done that. Good and faithful servant, right. Yes, At the end of the day, that's what it's really about. It's like the afterlife, right? The Bible says I press towards the mark of a high calling in Christ Jesus, and let us be mature in how we think as it relates to pressing towards that mark right. It says we haven't attained means you haven't grasped a holder to it yet, so you have to keep pressing towards that mark right. And then the other thing that keeps me going is actually the fruits of the spirit. People don't understand that one of the fruits of the spirit is self-discipline, Right, Right. So the fruits of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.

Speaker 1:

Self-control.

Speaker 2:

That's the word. That's Galatians 5, 22 and 23.

Speaker 2:

So if I'm cultivating the Holy Spirit with it which is inside of me, right, and that's one of the lessons that we that's the lesson that I taught my group this morning is called Spiritual Fit Camp. That was the title of today's lesson. So we talked about, you know, pressing towards the mark of a high calling, and we talked about Second Timothy 2 and 5, where it says not only that, excuse me, not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. So again, suffering produces endurance.

Speaker 2:

Endurance produces character, character, produces faith. So you see how the word is just tying together so that me not wanting to do or me going through, that's producing endurance. And I know that God hasn't expected into me. I'm just stupid enough to believe what he says. So I want everything that God has for me on earth. I'm not one of them that want to wait until we get to that new heaven or the new earth or wherever we're gonna be together with God, I want what's in me right here.

Speaker 1:

Exactly exactly, and that's what I'm telling you. That's my determination. That's why I say, you know, cue for Christ, because I want what he got from me on earth. I know I'm gonna get what I'm gonna get. I ain't worried about that. I know I'm gonna get that, but I want what I'm gonna get now, like you know, because you know we can, like PD say, we can live, sink and thrive. I mean sink and thrive. And one thing that I want to do with us I want to be thriving this year. I don't. I want to be thriving my hope for the rest of my life. Okay, so you know, I feel like you cover everything. I was gonna ask you what was the biggest challenge that you have faced throughout this whole time of trying to even motivate people. I know you do a motivational where people post their exercises. I said I would go try to do it.

Speaker 1:

I ain't even gonna tell them stuff, but what are some of the biggest challenges that you have faced being in the podcast world?

Speaker 2:

Honestly, it's getting people to believe in themselves and to understand, to get people to understand that the way you view yourself is the way that you view God. So if you view yourself as less than not enough, you don't trust God to get you out of every situation. So, you know, I often say, like you say, transformational. I'm very big on you know, be renewed, be transformed by the renewing of your mind, because that is actually where you are actually going to be able to make some inroads and become who you desire to be. Right. Right, why you think Paul says be renewed by the transforming of your mind, because if you're not, you're gonna, the enemy is gonna use that as a basis to keep you bound, right. And so if you, if I can't get you to understand who you are, who's you are and you're rightful place in God's kingdom on earth, that's the biggest thing, right? Because you see it, all the time there's a mindset of lack, there's a mindset of not enough, there's a mindset of I'm not good enough right Right.

Speaker 2:

But I want them to see if God can take me and you me and get me to the places I've been and the things that. I've done from where. I come from. God is not a respected person. He can use anybody. You just have to open yourself up and allow him to use you, because that's one thing I do know God is not gonna use you and not reward you for allowing you to use him. I'm not for allowing you to be used by him.

Speaker 1:

Right, Amen, amen. Well, I feel like you have done it. If you have any advice that you would leave to the listening audience, that just being consistent or trying to make sure that you stay in the right mind and right fame frame of mind if you have any advice that you would like to leave to the audience, that will be so great.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, most definitely. Remember. It takes faith to step into your destiny. Control what you can control. You can control how you react, what you do and the effort you put forth to where you wanna go. Everything is really all on you. God is giving you the keys to the kingdom. Use the keys to become who you want to become.

Speaker 2:

And it starts with just putting a day behind the day, behind the day behind the day, so you worry about the day. You finish the day. You be fruitful. You multiply. You should do and dominate. Today you wake up. Tomorrow you do the same thing. You be fruitful. Multiply, so do and dominate. Whatever God gives you. Multiply it, that information he gives you. Multiply it. Subdu your flesh and dominate in the space that God wants you to be. And just remember that the cemetery is the richest place on earth. Don't let your dreams and your aspirations be in the cemetery with you and the rest of the crew. Get what God has for you. It's yours for the taking if you change your mindset. So the last thing I wanna tell your audience is to master your mindset.

Speaker 1:

It's so good, oh, my goodness. I'm sitting up here, you know, cause I know I've heard that about the cemetery being the richest place, and it's just every time I hear that it just oh, oh, my goodness. Well, y'all heard it. Y'all heard it. Y'all heard it from myth. To see why I'm so excited, I want you to let everybody know where they can reach you at, and if you want to just say a quick prayer, I will love that.

Speaker 2:

Okay, most of them will definitely can do that so they can reach me on, excuse me. They can find me on Instagram at I am 8020Nation. They can find me on YouTube same thing I am 8020Nation. That's the channel. Or they can find me at Carltonashyungcom. That's my website. It has my information. If you're interested in, you know, booking me for a transformational speech, a speech on leadership speech on overcoming adversity, that's the best place to find me. So that is. I am 8020Nation on Instagram. I am 8020Nation on YouTube and Carlton-Yungcom.

Speaker 2:

You can hear me on the Elevated Mindset podcast. It's available on Apple, spotify, it's on YouTube and all other streaming platforms. All right, so we're both without a prayer. I pray. I do appreciate you having me. I enjoy being on the podcast again and, just like I said, don't let that pretend. Your potential, your dreams, all that go down the drain because you don't step into who God designed you to be. So, with that said, we'll close our eyes and pray.

Speaker 2:

Gracious Father, lord, we thank you for this time. We thank you for the Q for Christ podcast. We thank you for the conversation, father. We thank you for elevating minds and changing mindsets. We wanna give everybody that kingdom mindset to believe in your word, just to believe in the principles that you've laid out for us and let them know that they are more than enough, that they are fearfully and wonderfully made, that there's an affirmation, father. Affirm them through your word. On a daily basis, those that are going through feel like they wanna give up. Father, give them a glimpse of what you have for them. Allow them to connect with somebody. It can help them change their life, their mindset, helping to open up their ears to hear what you're saying. Remove the spirit of blinders so they can see what's before them. Father, we thank you.

Speaker 2:

Right now, father, and everybody that listens to this podcast, I declare in the creed a better 2024. I speak it through the authority that you place in us. Allow us to understand our authority, know who we are, who's we are and what we've been placed here to do is to impact the kingdom for such a time as this, and I do believe that in 2024, if anybody is listening to this podcast, father, they're looking for that next step in their life. They're looking for better, they're looking to elevate. So we ask that you continue to elevate them.

Speaker 2:

We ask that you elevate the hopes of this podcast, continue to grow this podcast exponentially. We're grateful for what you've said or done for us. Most of all, we thank you, thankful for your son Jesus, for dying for our sins, even though that we didn't deserve it, that he was humble and he was obedient unto death, father, and he's given us the opportunity to enjoy, and he's standing at the right hand of you right now, making intercession for his Father. Yes, god, you allow us to operate and move in the principles of your word, and we appreciate you. In Jesus' name, we pray amen.

Speaker 1:

Amen, oh, thank you. Thank you again for being on here. I'm so excited that God has brought you in my life. I'm telling you we are gonna do some amazing things and you're 100% behind what you're doing. And I tell people that I am a supporter. That's who I am, because I ain't worried about my God. God is gonna do what mine have to do, but I'm gonna support everybody else. So I thank you again for being on here All right.

Speaker 2:

I thank you for that. There's something that you said I wanna leave with your audience just real quick If you don't support, how can you expect to be supported? You came from all over. How can you expect to leave? So remember, what you put out there is what you get back. So I'm the same as you. I wanna support everybody doing something for the kingdom, because we need in every pocket of life. So I'm grateful for you, thank you for you, thank you for Bible, you, that whole family. Let's continue to move in the master, be of the master's use and move the way that he desires us to move. And I'm grateful and thankful for you having me on the podcast again.

Speaker 1:

Oh, I'm so thankful. Oh, my goodness, I'm telling you, I'm seeing here trying to keep my getting is down, because I'm just one of those. So, anyways, I thank you all for tuning in. I thank you all for liking, sharing, you commenting. Make sure you comment so I can know that you have been there and make sure that if you want to give your life to Christ, you can always acknowledge that you are a sinner, you can confess with your mouth and believe in your heart, you can turn from your ways and you can seek after his face. All right, I thank you again and make sure that you are staying cute for Christ. All right, bye y'all, all right.
